There are so many reasons why every business should have a blog. Recently, a new client reached out to me through my website. Her name was Deb, and she booked a consult shortly after I published a post.
“Thank you so much for sharing that blog,” she wrote in her message, “I so needed to hear those words”.
You see, Deb felt an emotional connection after reading my blog.
And why is that important?
Because extensive studies have shown that emotion drives purchases.
Also, after reading the blog, Deb felt as if we were already working together, since the blog contained journalling exercises that she sat down to do at home. This brought Deb closer than ever to the possibility of becoming my client.
This created a meaningful and emotion-based relationship that brought a stranger in close, and then converted her into a client.
Here are the other top reasons why every business should have a blog:
1. A blog increases your SEO.
Search Engine Optimisation is what determines which sites make it to the very top of a Google search. NEWSFLASH: If your website is not in the top four of a Google search page, you may as well not be on the web at all.
There is so much to know about SEO. If you can’t invest a significant portion of your time to understand how to DIY, I recommend outsourcing this to a specialist.
On a basic level, it’s important to understand that search engines reward you for producing fresh content, using relevant keywords, and meeting the needs of online searchers. Blogging does all three of these in one go.
2. A Blog Grows Your Email List
A blog is the number two way I get people to my website to sign up for my email list (the number one is with an excellent opt-in). Each time I post a link to my new blog on Facebook and Instagram, I drive traffic to my website. I encourage you to do the same. If your blog content is valuable, helpful, and consistent, the reader will trust that your newsletter is worth signing up for too.
2. Blogging gives your business a brand and a voice.
Your blog is the best way show your clients your brand personality. Your blog communicates what you are all about, so they can know if they are in alignment with you. The more specific your blog voice, the more people will come in close. Your blog is how you build a real relationship with your clients that is based on emotion rather than fact, and as I said before, emotion is what drives purchases.
3. Your blog will help you build credibility as an expert in your field.
Your blog is your chance to share what you know, to become respected and appreciated for all the knowledge and value that you give to your ideal clients. If they trust you, look up to you, and feel like they learn from you… well, did I mention that emotion drives purchases? Committing to writing a blog will also strengthen your existing knowledge and expertise, as you will be continually expanding on what you can teach and share.
4. Your blog is your chance to tell your story.
Who are you? Why did you get started? What problem are you trying to solve for the world? Everyone loves a story, and as they say; facts tell, stories sell. Did I mention that emotion drives purchases?
5. A Blog is free marketing
You are essentially selling as you post. And if you are clever, you can turn each blog into a weekly email-marketing newsletter. Then into a Facebook, Instagram (or any other social platform) post. Each week, I use my one blog post to cover 3-4 social media posts and one email blast. It streamlines your creative efforts and keeps your marketing tight and consistent.
