This 3 week course sets up the foundation for an easeful and ongoing meditation practice and is a pre-requisite for all further study in the Meditation Mastery series. 

What is Meditation for Beginners?

Meditation for Beginners addresses the most common questions, misunderstandings and confusing bits about meditation. It covers the essential how’s and why’s of creating a stable practice. 

 

This course was created after interviewing countless colleagues, friends and clients about their meditation frustrations- and by asking them one key question, “What is it you would you most like to know about meditation?”. 

 

The interview responses mirrored almost exactly the comments and questions I have about meditation over my years of teaching. The top five queires were: 

1. How do I quiet my mind and what do I do with my thoughts? 

2. What is the point? What is meditation for? How is it different to just sitting and thinking? 

3. I know it is good for me, but how do I make myself do it? How do I meditate consistently?

4. What technique am I supposed to be using? What is the right way to do it?

5. Am I supposed to be using guidance or do it on my own? And, how do I do it on my own?

Beginners Mind

This course is absolutely essential for continuing to work with me, either one-on-one or through additional courses. 


There are many styles of meditation and countless ways that it is understood, interpreted and taught. Thus even though you may feel like an expert in certain styles or traditions, I will be asking you to “begin” again with me.  


Even if you do not identify as a beginner meditator, you will be asked to adopt a “beginner’s mind” for this course. Beginner’s mind is an essential tool on the path to awakening, as is learning to take as many views of the world, ourselves, and of others as we can. 


Beginners’ mind means that we let go of what we think we know, adopting a curious mindset and asking- how can I see from a different view. With Beginners Mind we remain open to all views and ideas. By contrast, when we think we know, we are closed to new ideas.
