The first time I sat to meditate I closed my eyes and two minutes later I wanted to scream. I did not know how to sit and be still with my thoughts. I was itchy, antsy, and wild inside. I wondered, how will I ever do this? And yet, I somehow knew that I must.
I was 26 and was reading my first Buddhist book. It promised me freedom, and I was so miserable, critical and dissatisfied with almost every one and every thing in my life that I wanted to know how to be free. Meditate, that book told me. Meditate your way to freedom.
Yet I sat, and it was terrifying. At first, I had to use a guided meditation and I could only make it for about five minutes. My mind was crazy and I felt like a disaster inside.
Five minutes became seven became ten and somewhere in those minutes I glimpsed a little slice of peace. I found a teacher, a sangha (community) and began to sit silent meditation retreats.
Now I am almost 40 and meditation is my favourite time of day. I am content, appreciative and satisfied with almost every one and every thing in my life. Meditate, that book told me, meditate to freedom. And I have.
Now I offer you the same path to joy, satisfaction and freedom, if you’ll take it.
I can’t promise you that it will be easy, but I can promise that if you stick with it, it will work. At first, you might want to scream. It’s possible that you’ll look inside and find a wild, unruly and chaotic mess. But I can promise that if you stay long enough, you’ll find peace in there too.
You can meditate your way to freedom, and I would love to show you how. I created the Meditation Mastery Course Series as a way to systematically teach the most loving, kind and effective way to get there and I would be delighted if you would come along.
This is my purpose- to share what I have learned with you and to pass on these incredible teachings that truly pave the way to freedom.
