Hi, I am Kate. I am a Trauma Focused Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, E-RYT 500hr Yoga Instructor, Retreat Facilitator, and Insight Dharma Teacher in the Western Insight (Theravadan) Buddhist Lineage.
I have been practising and studying Buddhist meditation since 2007, when, after reading Jack Kornfield’s book The Wise Heart, I went to India to sit my first retreat. Upon returning home, I discovered I lived three hours from Spirit Rock Meditation Centre, which soon became my second home. I was deeply influenced by many Spirit Rock teachers, including being mentored by Heather Sundberg, until I returned to Australia in 2015. There, I found Alan Bassal, who became my mentor and dear friend.
My Dharma is deeply influenced by my love and study of yoga philosophy, as well as my years as a Firefighter and Paramedic. My work focuses on trauma awareness, safety, and integrating kindness and compassion into practice. I co-wrote and facilitate the transformative Mindfulness-based Trauma Recovery and Prevention program for Frontline Workers with my Dharma friend and colleague, Lisa Brown.
With a focus on sharing dharma that is relatable, understandable, pragmatic, and relevant, I am currently co-founding Sky Sangha—a weekly online gathering for emerging meditators in Australia, offering teachings and discussion on the Buddha’s wisdom for modern times.
When not travelling, I facilitate Insight Retreats in the Adelaide area and offer various mindfulness and yoga programs and workshops online and around the country.
My aspiration is to share meditation and yoga teachings that serve as a gentle refuge in the midst of our busy—often overwhelming—modern world, offering teachings that ease confusion and plant seeds of kindness.
May all beings be at peace.
