I grew up in rural Australia. Lot’s of deadly snakes and Redback spiders and dirt. My town was humble and tiny, thus with a gaping sense of boredom (and a need to escape) I moved to California after high school and became and became a firefighter paramedic.
In 2016 my long career in emergency services ended after an intolerable call that caused a sudden onset of anxiety that I had never had before, and later understood to be PTSD. After all the suffering I had seen as a paramedic I was on a mission to liberate fellow souls from their self-imposed limitations, and to understand and liberate myself from the effects of trauma.
As a result I created a new life: one in which I was still helping humans but that also included living out my passions. Now I teach yoga and meditation with a trauma focus, am a guest lecturer at Flinders University teaching Mindfulness to Paramedic Students and stress reduction to busy stressed-out business women. I run incredible retreats, and have buried myself (with complete joy) in the ancient eastern wisdom of the great sages.
I have been a practitioner of Buddhist meditation since 2008, and have sat (and facilitated) over 30 silent meditation retreats up to 30 days in length. I am currently in 4-6 year training to become a senior Insight Dharma Teacher through the Insight Meditation Institute of Australia.
I teach and mentor from the shared suffering of humanity. My first love is to teach awakening through presence, and the reduction of suffering through wisdom. The asana (yoga) I teach is to calm, stabilise and ground the body and mind to support the development of awareness and insight. My meditation instruction is inclusive and trauma aware.
